João has a background in biodiversity and population genetics from the University of Porto, Portugal. She obtained her PhD in Physics at Heriot-Watt University, UK her research was in semiconductor detector physics.

Silvia joined Scientific Reports in March 2021, after being a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex for 5 years. She joined Scientific Reports in 2019 after a PhD at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge, UK and post-doctoral work at the Francis Crick Institute in London, UK. Madushi’s background is in biochemistry and molecular biology. Over her eleven years in research, she worked on understanding telomere biology and has experience in cell, molecular and developmental biology. She has a PhD in Microbiology from University of Aberdeen, UK and worked as an EMBO postdoctoral Fellow at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, Portugal.
